Bart grew up in Northeast Nebraska in a small town of Madison, NE where agriculture is the heart and soul of the community. At the early age of 5 years old Bart began helping raise livestock on the family farm. Bart also has fond memories of working side by side with his grandfather butchering meat for local family and friends. He recalls stuffing sausage, grinding and cutting meat on the old family wood butcher block. The same old family butcher block can be seen in his office today. Each scarred up knife mark could tell a story.
Bart graduated from Northeast Community College in 1992 with an Associate’s degree in Animal Science. Upon graduating from college Bart immediately went to work for two of the industries major pork producers. He spent three years working for IBP and ten years with John Morrell & Co as a hog buyer. He most recently worked for Premium Iowa Pork in Hospers, IA. Bart played an instrumental role in the startup of PIP and served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer from 2005-2011.
Bart married his high school sweetheart Holly in 1994. Holly has a Master’s degree in elementary education and is employed as a full time 1st grade teacher in the Sioux Falls School District. Holly also helps fill in at the Meat Lodge when she is needed. Bart and Holly have two beautiful and talented daughters, Cortney and Krista. Both girls enjoy helping out at the Meat Lodge and are both very active in sports.
When Bart isn’t working on growing the business he enjoys spending time with his family. He cherishes the time he gets to watch the girls play basketball, softball and track. He also makes every effort to watch his favorite college football team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He enjoys helping teach the girls become proficient at archery and is introducing them to the sport of bow hunting.
